Remember all those timeless sci-fi movies you've seen featuring gadgets such as ray guns, teleporters, and such? Do you remember those sweet three-dimensional holographic projectors too? Modern day scientists have been working for ages to get that one "up and running in realtime," but really the closest they've ever gotten is projecting a somewhat 3D image onto a 2D surface--leaving geeks everywhere in dismay.
Well, it's time to put all that disappointment behind. Researchers at the University of Southern California have been working hard and have finally found a way. The minds at USC have developed a truly 3D holographic projector. I'm not exactly sure about all of the specifics, but I know the the projector works via a high-velocity, rapid-spin mirror that can produce some pretty astounding imagery. All I have to say is... It's about damn time.
