Gateway Unveils One; Will Probably Bomb

Hey, kids! Remember Gateway? With the cow boxes? Used to be Gateway 2000? Ok, you probably don't, but that doesn't mean you can't marvel at this beauty.

Behold the Gateway One. The iMac's retarded distant cousin that's only seen at awkward family reunions! Seriously, I don't see how you can be much more of a copycat.

Even if it's a ripoff, the specs aren't too bad. You can get up to 3GB memory, an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT MXM graphics card, Core 2 Duo, and a whopping seven USB ports. It's only available in a 19" model, and rings up at $1,300 base.

A noble effort, Gateway, but you still suck. Good luck keeping that general ledger in the black.

Crap I Love: Chumby

I've been gawking at this ever since I stumbled across it on TechCrunch about a year ago.

Chumby is a little stuffed ball with a touch sensitive screen that acts basically as an interactive, web-connected alarm clock. Imagine! Waking up in bed to a custom playlist, then picking up your alarm clock and checking weather, email, even RSS feeds and flickr photos, FROM YOUR BED. A dream come true? You better believe it. It's also hackable and completely customizable. They even encourage writing new programs, decorating it to your every whim, and pretty much anything else you can think of doing with a stuffed computer.

They're getting ready to start selling these puppies by the end of the summer at about $150 a pop.
